The field consists of both oil and gas pools, including the South White Rose oil pool. The oil pool covers approximately 40km2 and contains an estimated 200-250 million barrels of recoverable oil making it one of the largest North American oil discoveries. The White Rose field is approximately 50km from the Hibernia and Terra Nova oilfields. The owners of the development are Husky Energy (72.5%) and Petro-Canada (27.5%). The primary site was discovered in 1988. White Rose is the third field offshore Newfoundland to be developed following Hibernia, in production since 1997, and Terra Nova, which went into production in early 2002.
